Compare and Contrast

I plan on comparing and contrasting two types of birds, a hawk, and the bald eagle.  Both are birds of prey, but I'm not yet sure what there differences are.

Revised Paper (Birds)

Facts About Birds
In Bob Marley’s classic song “Three Little Birds,” Bob sings of three little birds on his door step singing a sweet song.  Birds are magnificent creatures that are able to travel to where ever they wish because of there ability to fly.  There are about 10,000 different species of birds (Rainforest Canopy).  There are birds everywhere around the world.  These birds vary from size, location, and risk of extinction.
Birds come in many different sizes, the smallest being the male bee hummingbirds (Birds of a Feather).  These humming birds are found in Cuba and weigh .056 ounces and are roughly 2.75 inches long (Birds of a Feather).  The male bee hummingbirds bill and tail account for 50 percent of its total length (Birds of a Feather).  The largest bird is the Ostrich, which cannot fly (Life 123).  The Ostrich can be 9 feet tall and weigh up to 350 pounds (Life 123).  They are incredibly fast, reaching speeds of  43 mph (Life 123).  They also have amazingly powerful legs, which have the ability to kill a human (Life 123).  They are generally found in Africa (Life 123).  The largest flying bird is the Andean Condor, which has a wingspan of 10 feet and is about 4 feet long (Life 123).  The fastest bird is the Peregrine Falcon, which can fly at 124 mph (Birds of a Feather).  The slowest is the American woodcock, which is able to flap its wings and fly at 5 mph (Birds of a Feather).  The longitivtiy of the flight depends on the size of the bird (Madsci Network).  The larger birds are able to flap their wings less, while smaller birds need more rest due to flapping their wings more (Madsci Network).  One study tracked a female Bar-Tailed Godwit, which traveled 7,150 miles in a week (Mongabay.com).  All birds eat about the same amount each day (Wildlife Garden).  They eat as soon as they get up, and then find a large enough meal to last them through the night, larger birds obviously needing more to eat (Wildlife Garden).
Birds tend to eat seeds, grains, sugar water, nuts, and mealworms, unless they are carnivorous birds (Buzzle).  Carnivorous birds will eat mice, snakes, and previously killed animals (Buzzle).  Birds are found all around the world, but 50 % of them live in the Amazon and Indonesia (Mongabay).  Within the Amazon, there are about 350 different types of parrots (Mongabay).  The birds that are seen in temperate areas tend to eat nectar, berries, nuts and even tree sap (Buzzle).  They have the ability to break hard things like nuts with their beaks (Buzzle).  The sugar water that can be given to birds through bird feeders mimics nectar, and this attracts hummingbirds (Buzzle).  Birds can even eat homemade goods such as bread, crackers, and pancakes (Buzzle).
There is an estimated 200 to 400 billion total birds in the world (Springerlink).  Unfortunately, there are a large number of birds that are expected to die off.  Since 1800, a total of 103 birds have become extinct (Camacdonald).  Out of the current amount of species of birds, which is 10,000 as stated earlier, 12% are at a serious risk of becoming extinct in 100 years (Camcdonald).  This is due to hunting,  human destruction of land, and new predators that birds have not yet learned to fear (Camcdonald).  Another problem is that birds have difficulty reaching adulthood.  Small birds living in temporate regions live for about 1.5 years, but only 20% even reach adulthood (Countrysideinfo).  Tropical birds, sea birds, and big birds live can live about ten times longer (Countrysideinfo).
Birds vary in size, location, and risk of extinction.  They are incredible creatures that come in all shapes and sizes, and many bright and beautiful colors.  They come from all over the world.  Unfortunately, many birds are at risk of becoming extinct.  This is due to human intrusion.  This threat to many different species of birds can be put to a end if humans begin to take action to further protect birds.

    The Concept Of Worry

Bob Marley’s “Three Little Birds” is the definition of reggae music.  Even if you aren’t a fan of Bob Marley, you have heard of the classic song.  Bob Marley delivers powerful messages in each of his songs.  He had a vision of peace, and expressed his words through music. The main message is very clear in the song, “Don’t worry about a thing, cause every little thing, is gonna be alright.” Worrying is apart of everybody’s life, whether it is worrying about how you will do on tomorrow’s math test or the health of a loved one.  But, why exactly do we worry?  What are the most common things to worry about? Is it healthy to worry?
The term “worry” originates from the Middle English word “worien,” which originated from the Old English term “wyrgan.”  These terms are similar to the Old High German term “wurgen,” meaning strange, and the Lithuanian term “verzti,” meaning constrict. (meriam-webster.com)  It is interesting that the word worry originates from terms used to describe “strangle” and “constrict.”  This is exactly what worry does to you.  It constricts your mind, your worry becomes all you can think about.  Your worries consume you, which is a bad thing, because you should focus on making the outcome better, and then you really have nothing to worry about.
Worry is caused by mental distress or agitation as a result of concern, usually for something impending or anticipated. (superperformance.com)  In other words, you can really only worry about something upcoming in the future, and the outcome is unknown.  This makes sense as there is really nothing to worry about that happened in the past.  When you worry, it can totally consume you, it can be the only thing you actually think about.  These different things you worry about can actually be dangerous.  In extreme cases of anxiety, the immune system can break down, causing simple diseases or virus, such as the common cold, to become deadly. (superperformance.com)  The fact that we can worry about something so much that it can become deadly is shocking.
The top five most worried topics for teens are (from most worried topic to least worried topic);  Good grades, looking good for the day, getting along with their parents, getting a good job after high school, and fitting in with others. (raisingteenagers-about.blogspot.com)  These are definitely things worth worrying about.  Nothing is more important to a teenager than fitting in with others and looking their best.  Worrying about grades and getting a good job is obviously important as well, because that is a very important part in determining one’s future.  These are healthy things to worry about, and everyone does worry about one of these things at some point in their life.  It is important though to minimize these worries, because if your worry becomes your total focal point on these topics, then you really aren’t working on making these things better.  If you are constantly worrying about your grades, then you really aren’t working on getting good grades by studying or doing the work necessary to fulfill your anxiety.  There are steps in minimizing your worries, because that is really all that can be done.  You can’t completely stop worrying about something, because if you aren’t at least worrying a little bit about something important to you, then you don’t care about making it better.  The first step to take is identifying what causes you to worry.  It is important to do this so that you can understand what is causing all of this anxiety.  The second step is thinking about possible ways to reduce the worries.  It is important to set small, reasonable goals to minimize your anxieties so that you can accomplish the goals.  The third step is to admit that worrying will not solve your problem. (articlebase.com) If you are able to realize that worrying is getting you no where, then it becomes easier to calm down the worries.  The fourth step is to schedule times where it is okay to let out your anxiety. (articlebase.com)   You can let it out in some sort of quiet place, like in your room or something.  The final step in minimizing your worries is by repeating the first four steps everyday. (articlebase.com) It is important to consistently work with these steps, because practice makes perfect.
Through this song, Bob Marley wanted the world to just sit back and relax, to take in the world.  As hard as this is to do, he believed that to be happy was to release your worries.  That can be a very difficult thing to do.  Everybody worries about something at some point in their life, if not everyday.  Bob just wanted to let the world know that no matter what happens, or what you think will happen, every little thing is gonna be alright
